Two California-based companies announced this week that they are moving operations to states with lower costs.

Review Wave, a tech company in Irvine, announced that it is moving to McKinney, Texas, later this month. The company produces automated software that allows patients to give reviews of their experiences with doctors and other health care providers, and to receive appointment reminders, online scheduling, and other services.

Review Wave’s agreement with the McKinney Economic Development Corporation includes plans to create 73 tech and executive jobs over the next three years, bringing the company’s total number of employees to 130, with an average salary of $76,000.

Marrone Bio Innovations Inc., which makes biologically based products to replace farm chemicals, moved its corporate headquarters from Davis to Raleigh, North Carolina, the Sacramento Business Journal reported January 6.

The company said the move is designed to support its growing presence in international markets, and that the relocation mainly will affect executive positions. Research-and-development operations and several support functions will remain in Davis, the company said.

“International expansion is a key element of our long-term growth plans, and this move provides us greater proximity to global markets,” Chief Executive Officer Kevin Helash said in a press release. “We’re delighted to be part of the rich agricultural technology community in the Research Triangle area, and look forward to deepening our relationships with partners and customers based in the area. Given the region’s extensive agricultural focus, we also anticipate tapping into a talent pool of individuals who will be attracted to the growth opportunities Marrone Bio has to offer.”

Marrone was the Sacramento area’s sixth-largest locally based public company, with revenue of $38.37 million in 2020, the Business Journal reported.
