Larry McCarthy, president of the California Taxpayers' Association (Cal-Tax), issued this statement today after Governor Pete Wilson signed AB 1614 (Lempert) in ceremonies at Cisco Systems in San Jose: "Taxpayers applaud the Legislature and Governor Wilson for approving this landmark legislation that will strengthen California's position in the global marketplace. The prohibition against new and discriminatory taxes on Internet services guards against government actions that would undermine California's world leadership position in high technology. Approval of AB 1614 will prevent tax problems for this emerging industry as it grows to enhance the California economy with new commerce, investment and jobs." |
