"Most of the surviving parenting magazines are published in New York, with a scattered few coming from California and Pennsylvania. Florida's Baby Times, a bi-monthly parenting magazine that originated in Miami in 1986, lasted only one year. 'We were undercapitalized,' says Baby Times' former publisher Peter Conn, who now publishes the Florida Child Advocate, a newsletter funded by the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. 'Because of the sales tax on services in Florida, it was hard to get major advertisers.'"
