Santa Clara County Pays $500,000 for Withholding Public Records. The Sacramento Daily Recorder reports: "In what may be the largest award of its kind in California, Santa Clara County has paid $500,000 in attorney fees as a result of losing a public records battle." The county was sued by the First Amendment Coalition after it refused to release a detailed digital map of the county and its property records. County officials argued that the map could aid terrorists, but the courts ordered the release of the public records. (Source: Sacramento Daily Recorder, October 9.)
