California
Taxpayers’ Association President Teresa Casazza announced March 4 that Cal-Tax
General Counsel Michele Pielsticker has been promoted to the position of Vice
President and General Counsel.
“Michele is a
tremendously effective advocate for taxpayers, and now she will have an
expanded role in protecting taxpayers’ rights and advancing the priorities of
the California Taxpayers’ Association,” Ms. Casazza said. “As an experienced
lawyer and tax policy analyst, Michele is able to guard against policies that
would harm taxpayers, and work with policy-makers from both parties to improve
the state’s tax structure.”
Ms. Pielsticker
joined Cal-Tax in May. Previously, she was a tax consultant for the state
Assembly, providing policy advice and technical analyses of all proposals that
affect California's tax rates, focusing her efforts on the Assembly Revenue and
Taxation Committee and the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and
the Economy.
Her experience also
includes serving as an attorney for a public interest legal foundation, where
she was lead counsel on cases involving issues ranging from bilingual education
to discrimination in public contracting.
Ms. Pielsticker, who
earned her law degree and bachelor's degree in international relations at the
University of California at Davis, also has served as a judicial extern for
U.S. District Court Judge Edward Garcia, and as an
aide to then Senate Republican Leader Ken Maddy.
She lives in
Sacramento with her husband and two children.
