Legislative Update:
Bills Finally Sent to the Governor

Legislative leaders, who have been holding in limbo most measures passed prior to September 11 in the waning days of the session, finally released them to the governor. The Assembly sent 96 bills to the governor on September 25 and 338 bills to the governor on September 28. A number of bills also were sent to the governor on September 29. The Senate also sent a sizable number to the governor on September 28.

According to legislative staff, the governor recently received more than 500 legislative bills, bringing the total number on the governor's desk to 703 that require action by October 11. There is speculation that the reason for the delay in submitting these bills to the governor was hope that a deal could be reached on the water crisis. Last year, due to the delayed budget, the governor had approximately 900 bills to deal with in just eight days.
